Overview

QCT is dedicated to bringing advanced smartphone functionality and performance to all wireless device users. We couple our technology-leading silicon and software system packages with strong customer support and technology relationships to reduce product development cycles and increase product reliability in all market tiers.

To that end, we’ve worked with Microsoft to enable a new generation of multimedia and data-centric Windows Mobile® smartphones based on Qualcomm’s chipsets. These slim handsets will foster greater productivity, with features such as extended battery life when connecting to the corporate Exchange Server and fast multimedia for when the end-user is relaxing away from the office.

Qualcomm also is collaborating with Google. As one of the founding members of the Open Handset Alliance (OHA)TM Qualcomm, along with other members of OHA, are working together to develop and deploy Android, an open-source, commercial-grade, mobile application platform for 3G networks. Building on the core Linux operating system, Android allows manufacturers and developers to create always-connected consumer mobile devices that boast rich, customizable functionality.

We also support the BREW® application platform and services, which allow developers to create flexible, differentiated solutions to improve the wireless experience. Utilizing the fast 3G data connectivity enabled by Qualcomm, developers can offer new media-rich services and build new revenue streams, while reducing operating expenses and time to market.

Regardless of the application platform, we push the silicon envelope to extend the capabilities of a handset beyond basic voice support. Our silicon and software system solutions feature fully integrated multimedia—from streaming video to gaming to gpsOne® position location mapping and more—all on the same device.

Benefits

Providing system-level solutions to development teams.
We provide a system-level solution that includes enabling software and silicon for each of the OS application platforms we support. We offer a full Board Support Package (BSP) and integrated hardware acceleration for the OS’s multimedia framework. In addition, all modem and GPS  features are pre-integrated into the application platform’s telephony, data networking, and U-SIM middleware.

Quality built in from the beginning.
By pre-testing Qualcomm’s software to standards such as GCF, CDG, and LTK, OEMs can quickly introduce devices with more functions, and operators can promote revenue-generating services with less development work and higher customer satisfaction.

Less really is more.
Our technology integration helps to bring smartphone attributes to feature phones with lower price points and mass-market appeal. Qualcomm provides greater voice, data, multimedia, graphics, and GPS  functionality in a smaller form factor, with better system-level concurrency and extended battery life. Support for advanced OS application platforms allows third-party developers to develop new and innovative applications, thus creating new revenue streams for handset manufacturers, carriers, and developers alike.
