Overview

Qualcomm’s PM6640™ IC is a member of QCT’s powerOne™ family of advanced power management chips, providing a highly optimized, high-quality systems solution for mobile handsets when interfaced with select Mobile Station Modem™ (MSM™) chipsets.

The PM6640 solution integrates all power management, general housekeeping, and functions supporting handset-level user interfaces into a single mixed-signal IC, including charging functions and voltage regulation for the various MSM products, radioOne® RF chips, and all other MSM-supported peripheral features designed for 3G wireless devices.

Key Functionality

• Wall-charging (CC, CV, Pulse, Trickle) or USB charging
• Two buck switching regulators and seven low-dropout linear regulators
• Analog MUX – allows a single MSM HKADC input to monitor various phone voltages and charging current, PMIC temperature, two external inputs, and MPP inputs
• USB transceiver (full-speed 12 Mbit/s), crystal oscillator and real-time clock with alarm and coin cell backup, and LED drivers
• Multi-purpose pins (MPPs) that can be used as LED drivers, analog inputs, or digital inputs or outputs
• Vibrator motor driver with programmable output voltage
• TCXO buffer and regulator with deglitcher
• 500 mW speaker driver
• SBI interface
• On-chip Smart Thermal Control system for over-temperature protection
