QCT Trends: Gobi Wins Laptop Magazine Award
Laptop Magazine Selects Gobi Internet Technology for Mobile Innovation Award
Laptop magazine, a leading mobile technology publication, has selected Qualcomm’s Gobi mobile Internet technology as a winner in its fifth annual Mobile Innovation Awards competition.

Gobi – a built-in wireless broadband product that allows mobile computer users to access the Internet anytime, from virtually anywhere – was selected in the magazine’s January awards issue as one of the year’s top breakthroughs in mobile design and functionality. The magazine praised Gobi for making wireless broadband easier for mobile professionals and IT managers. As Laptop’s editors noted: “If mobile broadband killed hotspot hunting, Gobi killed the need for having to choose between different integrated cellular modems when purchasing a notebook.”

Other products selected for this year’s awards included the first affordable in-flight broadband service, Google's first smart phone, eco-friendly Wi-Fi routers and pocket-size projectors. “We evaluated hundreds of products when selecting the Mobile Innovation Award winners,” said Mark Spoonauer, Laptop's Editor in Chief. “The gadgets and services we’ve chosen all do justice to the word innovation.”
Gobi also recently received a “Best of What's New” award from Popular Science magazine, which named the wireless broadband technology one of the top computing innovations of 2008.
